Current Prayers - month of May

Prayers this week:
  • Continuing to pray for discipline with my evening/morning routines.  I am constantly failing at this.  I need so much more discipline.
  • Continuing to pray for more motivation/energy with my workouts.  I have my schedule completed for next week and I am planning to alternate yoga DVD's and running in the mornings.  Let's see what happens.
  • Praise that Olivia is back to a great sleeping schedule.  She sleeps especially well on Thursday nights after swim lessons.
  • Continuing to pray for Andrew's family and some personal issues several family members are dealing with at this time.
  • Praying for Andrew's Nana who moved to Arlington this past Monday with Andrew's Aunt Twyla.  Nana is very sad about the move and she is convinced that she will never see us again.  Praying that she will get settled into a normal routine and have many visitors to make her feel welcome and at home.  We're planning a trip to see her next month.  Nana has also lost a lot of weight and her dementia has gotten much worse since Pops passed away in late January.  Nana actually weighs less than me now, which is crazy, because she has never weighed anywhere close to what I weigh.  She's lost like 40 lbs since Pops passed.  Twyla is feeding her some protein shakes and sitting with her during meals to make sure she is eating.
  • Continuing to pray for Andrew and I to make wise financial decisions.
  • Praying for our dog, Cooper (aka "Bubba"), who was diagnosed with cancer this week.  Prayers for us to have wisdom in discernment to know when it is "his time".  We love Cooper very much and right now we're just trying to make him comfortable.
  • Praise that Cooper came through his emergency splenectemy just fine.  He is still suffering from some loss of feeling or something in his left back leg and he won't walk on it.  Praying for him to regain use of this leg, so that he can be more comfortable.
  • Praying for Autumn to get into a better nighttime routine.  That girl does not want to sleep.  After we put her down she plays in bed for at least an hour.  Then she is usually so grumpy in the morning.
Verse(s) I am meditating on this week:
  • "Train a child in the way (s)he should go, and when (s)he is old (s)he will not turn from it." Proverbs 22:6 (NIV 1984) - This is a constant prayer of mine.
  • "Dear children, let's not merely say that we love each other; let us show the truth by our actions." 1 John 3:18 (NLT)

Prayers this week

We had a very exciting and exhausting weekend.  Andrew and his friends had a great time at the BP MS 150 and most importantly they were all safe.  Cycling can be dangerous and I've heard of so many accidents, that I am always a little worried when Andrew rides.  The girls and I met him in Austin after the ride.  Unfortunately we did not make it in time to see him finish.  We made it to Austin, but Olivia had an "I'm tired/hungry/I don't know what I want" meltdown, so we didn't make it down to the finish line until after Andrew finished.  I am very thankful for a fun, safe and exhausting weekend.

Here are my prayers for this week:

Prayers this week:
  • Continuing to pray for discipline with my evening/morning routines.  I have not had much progress with this.  I usually have one good night/morning and then 3 bad ones.  Praying that tonight and tomorrow morning are better.
  • Continuing to pray for more motivation/energy with my workouts.  I mapped out my street yesterday and found out that I can do one lap of my cul-de-sac and it is nearly a mile.  I am hoping to get my butt out of bed early and do 3 laps a few mornings a week with Cooper.
  • Still continuing to pray for wisdom and understanding regarding Olivia's feeding/sleeping schedule.  Since we got back in town from Austin she hasn't slept through the night.  Her schedule is just a little off.  Hoping to get it down better today.
  • Continuing to pray for the people impacted by the Boston Marathon bombings.
  • Praying for Andrew's family and some personal issues several family members are dealing with at this time.
  • Praying for Andrew and I to make wise financial decisions.  We have some large unbudgeted expenses coming up and we're trying to assess how to best handle them.  We have to replace our fence ASAP as it is falling down.  I was hoping to wait until the fall to do this after we get Andrew's bonus check.  We're also planning a trip to CA this summer to visit Andrew's sister and take the girls to Disneyland.

What's in a name?

I chose the blog name "Catching Some Sunshine" for a couple reasons.  I love to be outside in the sun (with sunscreen and a hat on of course) and my favorite bedtime song for my girls is "You are my Sunshine".  I love how Autumn sings it with me.  She says sunshine something like "shunshine."  So freaking cute!

Each week I am hoping to update the blog with my prayers for the week and updates on the previous weeks prayers.

Prayers this week:
  • Praying for discipline with my evening/morning routines.  I often just crash in the evenings after the girls are in bed.  This means that when I wake up I have to do the dishes, pack Autumn's breakfast, pack Olivia's bottles, pack my lunch, get myself ready and fix Autumn's hair.  (Andrew gets Autumn ready other than her hair).  This makes for a stressful morning and I usually don't get myself ready until after Andrew and the girls are headed out the door, which means that I am usually late for work.  I am praying for God to give me the strength, energy and discipline to be more organized and productive in the evenings, so that our mornings can go a bit smoother.
  • Praying for more motivation/energy with my workouts.  I haven't really worked out in almost a month.  I am really missing that aspect of my life, but I am also in a stage of life that is exhausting enough without trying to squeeze in a workout.  I am praying for God to help me with the energy to workout and the wisdom to know when to do it without taking away time from Andrew or the girls.
  • Praying for wisdom and understanding regarding Olivia's feeding schedule.  She started solid foods about two weeks ago and she eats like CRAZY.  Daycare keeps telling me that she is hungry.  I am praying for understanding on the best schedule for her that doesn't leave her hungry and that also helps me to keep up with her milk needs.
  • Praying for the people impacted by the Boston Marathon bombings.  I will probably do a separate post on this.
  • Praying for Andrew, Matt and Marc as they prepare for the MS150 this weekend.  Also, I am praying for me and the girls as we prepare to travel to Austin (by ourselves) to meet up with Andrew.
Verse(s) I am meditating on this week:
  • "The generous will prosper; those who refresh others will themselves be refreshed." Proverbs 11:25 (NLT)
  • "Train a child in the way (s)he should go, and when (s)he is old (s)he will not turn from it." Proverbs 22:6 (NIV 1984)
  • 'The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases.  His mercies never come to an end.  They are new every morning.  Great is your faithfulness." Lamentations 3:22-23 (ESV)

Starting something new

I am horrible at keeping a prayer journal.  I used to be very good at it, in high school.  Of course I was good at it, because it was required for a grade in my Bible class.  Anyways, since I am always on-line, and I already blog about my family, I thought I would start a blog tracking my spiritual life.

This blog is more for me than anything.  If you stumble across it, please feel free to stick around and read my thoughts and prayers.
